Five Masters Part 1

Five Masters is a descent into madness… If we finished the script that madness would have been cinematic dynamite, but what we have here is a tribute to the love and dedication given by the best bunch of filmmakers I could ever have hoped to work with. Joey Sinko is the most dedicated, natural, intense, Everything actor I’ve ever witnessed. He’s going to do BIG things when one of these Hollywood machines finally gets wind of him. Winston Hart gave everything. In return I gave him a place to stay… hah. Love you Winston. Kaci Cawley was my screenwriting partner. Kaci gave the Five Masters script it’s tasty dialogue - a sense of real sultry life. She also helped produce this thing right down to the bare bone. Robert Morris not only was the sound master of this film, but also inspired a sense of technical precision in my mind that will never go away and I will take from this to all future projects. Kaîtlyn ßurnett was indispensible she provided the backdrop. Kevin Riggin is a fluidly amazing actor, he has moments you don’t even realize are there until you’re in post-production. Connor Sweeney, man, this guy had so much hidden potential – we didn’t even scratch the surface… My entire cast! OH Joshua Freaking Tate, built a portable air compressor that we could haul into the mountains to get the blood splatter effect after we shot him – him being the Sheriff that we shot and all. Alfredo De Jesus, translated my dialogue into Spanish and performed for both of the Native sorcerers in the opening crawl. There were people we couldn’t even schedule that were so perfect. We had a Capital One Viking playing “Mr. Kid” and this wiry eccentric dude named George Steeves playing “Mosley” for this dark Giallo psyche ward scene Kaci and I wrote. There were some really amazing people who responded to this material! And what we have is a great first effort. This is the video we’ll probably never show professionally 10 years from now, but it’s the mark of true passion from all of us to try and tell a truly great story.

Finally I’m in New Orleans and post-production has begun. Everything feels electric. I’m collaborating with Robert Morris on the sound design and my wife Kaci Sexton as the music supervisor. Rob’s in LA working on Tarantino’s new movie before it leaves state and then he’ll be putting down the right sound effects.
As for what to expect. We shot about 10 scenes of a 30-some scene script. What it’s going to look like is something like a teaser scenario; like a 10 minute sneak peak. We have a lot of footage, but with the amount of story we have, I’ll say right now it’ll probably be around 10 minutes.
It’s already looking hot.

Production meeting: Our special effects coordinator, Josh Tate, is showing us how we can get the blood splatter effect. He has an air compressor he rigged to shoot blood.

Five Masters has been put on hold for the time being. I’ve been heavily involved in the last semester of my senior year and haven’t been able to schedule the last few scenes. Once this semester is over with I’ll be putting in some proper time to edit this little film.

This is a rough conglomeration of the raw footage I have.

We were shooting the scene where Hunter is running down from the mountains after killing a cop. I was in the trunk barking orders at everyone, being an asshole, and the trunk was all like BAM! and smashed me in the head. My left hand was over the focus ring when the trunk came down. It left a pretty good dent in my finger.

Lesson learned: Don’t be a jerk or trunks will eat you and give you concussions.

Welcome to the page for concept art on the movie Five Masters. This site will either help you visualize parts of the script, or just introduce you to my film, if you’re new. One way or another you’ve stumbled into a world where weirdness is a way of life, a means to an end. So then, strap yourselves in boys and girls and get ready for a wild ride. — TOM.
